    Possible German WW2 optics?

    Hi,

I have been wondering exactly what type of German(?) optics/periscope this item is and what it was used for. Some people I have asked locally have said it's from a German tank, I have not seen these exact optics in use on a tank before though, just ones that look similar to it. Any details, or even thoughts on what it is or what it is worth would be great. These optics were given to me in 2006, a friend was cleaning his fathers garage who was in the military, I don't know any other details. It still works perfectly.

Hopefully someone can provide me some answers?
    Thanks.

It is half of a "rabbit ear" binocular, from pre WWI era in my opinion.

    Here is another-

      Hi Kent,

The optic in the other thread does have many similarities although not identical.

I thought it was possibly from a set of rabbit ears, but I did not think as early as WW1 or prior. The fellow it previously belonged to (he has passed away, that's when his son found this and gave it me) was in the Canadian military for his career, it's possibly from an older veteran he knew or was in the family. I wish I knew more about, I will start looking at more WW1 optics, I guess that's why I didn't have any luck finding it with the WW2 stuff.

Any more comments and info very welcome!

The model is Zeiss SF 09 (Scherenfernrohr). The "09" is most likely for "1909".

Here is an identical complete set (apologies if links to another forum are not appropriate)

Looks like you have the left side, luckily, because that is the one with the maker marks. The other side on its own would have been more difficult to identify.

Cool. So I have a piece of a Scherenfernrohr SF 09. Glad I finally got around to figuring out what this thing was. Doesn't seem like it's worth large amounts of money but it still works great and maybe I will use it to spy on the neighbors

              Thanks!
