A buddy who was stationed in Latvia was good enough to do some shopping for me while he was there. One of the cool things he brought back was this optic. I started out thinking this was a trench periscope from WWI. I think the logo says "Karl Zeiss" and "St Petersburg" and appears to be Russian. It has been suggested that this may be one side of a "scissors periscope/binocular" and that may be true. I see some similarities. Looking at it I don't see how it could be mounted to the other half unless in a clamp of sorts. The full size view shows two highly polished areas that might support a clap or slot worn areas.
Holding it in my right hand and supporting it with my left, the bare brass worn areas fall right where my hand and fingers do. If it is from a "scissors periscope/binocular" I have a theory that it was used independently from it for observation. I'd like to know what your thinking. Thanks, Krugster
