      Hi Ulan,

looks like a German WW1 sight that is in very good condition
reading the details from the photos:
      maker C P Goerz,Berlin
      feild of view 10 degrees
      magnification x4
      X11 17 made December 1917

I can't help on whether its artillery/mortar... we need input from mlespaul here .....

you got it Stew, WW1 vintage.

This was a standard style from 1917 onward so it was interchangeable/useable in most any type of feldghaubitz(field howitzer) piece. This might have gone to either a mid to late 1917 7,7 cm FK light field cannon or 10cm light field howitzer

Mortars were a different affair in that their sighting systems were more of a manual affair. they were operated at such a high degree of elevation that their sighting systems were more ballistically-based on a manual system.

I just saw a Goerz Suomi (Finnish) version of this at a militaria show. By itself, no case or accessories. $90 USD. I wouldn't think this one would go for that much more.

The thing with these RblFs is that estate sales or other auction houses often times sell these in lots, so you can buy these in groups of 3 or 4 for the price of one depending on how the auction goes.
