Zeiss bifocal sight WW I

I have this rare bird in my collection. I always wondered why they used rubber eye cup. It looks like it is not necessary, since sight is mounted in the middle of rifle. It is nicely pictured in Senich's book.

You are lucky! Mine is the only one I know. How about this eye cup? Have You seen it on the other sights?

yours if the first i have seen with the carrying case!!!! i do have 1 with a leather eye cup in bad condition due to age. all of my observations have been in the 4000 serial range yours is the first low serial. the rear occular, you look through was changed later. not a image friendly forum sorry can't post pics.
