I am a long time collector, but know little to nothing on optics. I have an opportunity to purchase these, but seller wants a fair amount. Looking for help with whether this is worth buying., I may someday re-sell as these are a bit big, so I need to know value of these if I was to turn them in the future. What I do know is that the tri pod depicted here is not German. That includes the white plastic base just below the binoculars. I know they are Kriegsmarine, probably coastal artillery. I know they are missing the proper tri pod, but need to know if anything else is missing, other than the box they were issued with. Condition seems good, optics look fine (a little bubbling evident when looking at the front glass, but looks clear when looking through them). The name Hanson is scratched lightly into the paint in two places, and the initial H in a third. Seller feels this was the original sailors name, but I feel probably is the name of the GI that picked them up as a trophy. The paint appears all original, gears and levers work fine. There are 7 distinct hash marks scratched in near the front as well, which the seller is excited about, but I dont know when they may have been plced there. Any help is greatly appreciated. Most importantly again, would like to know the value in this condition. Story is they were purchased from widow of man that brought them home at a garage sale 10 years ago. Thanks!!

A nice 80 degree 10x80 produced by optische Praezisions Werke Warschau, for Carl Zeiss. Kriegsmarine observation telescope for tripod use.
You are basically only missing the transport crate, tripod, rubber eye cups and light cables.
Value is $1000,- + depending condition of the optics.Comment

As coastaldefence states the transport case is missing. The case has a battery box and 4 filters as well. Also a dust brush and optical cloth is in mine. Eyecups are the same as the ones for some 8x60’s and the excellent 10x (or18x) x80 with 20 degrees inclination. The light cables are expensive. They split into 3 light units and was used only on this model. Tripod is also atypical. It is a bit different in the way it is aligned/adjusted. I have one somewhere and could mail you a few photos. Tripods are rarer than the binoculars. If you can see bubles up front the Canada balm is deteriorating and will soon separate. It will have to be fixed. Another flaw on these are the prisms. They have a tendency to shatter and they are not easy to get hold of. PZO/eug had a better system than Zeiss but be careful and use scrutiny and a flashlight to check them out.
The colour scheme is two tone. Found on some of the eug’s. The aiming device is there. It looks quite OK but is binocular only + aiming device. If the prisms are OK all it needs is an overhaul. It only needs the lenses to be recemented if you are lucky. Price tag? $1000 is very reasonable for this model if the prisms are OK. The problem is all the inferior FLAK 10x80’s out there. They pull the price down as most people seem unaware of the difference in performance and production numbers. This is an entirely different piece of optics and outperforms a FLAK entirely. If otherwise OK, tight mechanism and generally sound I would stretch myself towards $1200-1500 depending on how badly I needed it and its condition. If the prisms are damaged or show any signs of maybe being damaged avoid it unless he has a set of spares to go along. This type of binocular was only used with navy FLAK and was never aboard any ship.

This is a very rare binocular. Much rarer than the 45 degree 10x80. There is one for sale on a german auction for euro 2700 + fees in a not orignal box. In my opinion this is worth usd 2000 + depending on how good the optics are.Comment
