          Michel,
A fine quality set of binoculars.
If you ever want to re home them let me know....it might be a struggle to fine a place for them but I would certainly try !!
Could I ask as a matter of interest could I ask hwt makers marks / styamps are on the interiror surface of the benutzer.
Thanks again for a look at what is a quality item , the RK of optics.

The code maker is CXN, much rarer than BLC.

We each have our own special interests as far as collecting goes....this is a seriously outstanding item , might just on the surface look like a big set of binoculars but it can hold its own against any RK or DK , given a choice between a RK and the 8x60 the binocular would win...its that good.

                Hello James,

We are very few to think that, perhaps are we abnormal...

                Best,

I'd have to agree. I love Iron Crosses, but you'll find a dozen original KCs for very set of binos like this. The Binos win hands down.
Michel, your taste in collectibles in impeccable!

And once again, your skills in photography are outstanding. Do you do all your own photos ? They look very professional.

Unfortunately, we are not many to collect the U-Boots items even if it's really very interesting (History, Human qualities, Tradition, Technology...), most of the collectors prefer Heer and Waffen SS, certainly because these soldiers have a weapon in the hands... more virile certainly...

Perhaps, with enough time, mentality will change.

Winston Churchill said : 'the only fear I had during this war were the submarines of Doenitz'

                        No I don't think so.

                        Michel,
I don't think so....... for a gent with Gordon Williamson's reputation to say that this set is the equal or better of some RK's speaks for itself.
I have two excellent binoculars , (Zeiss types) examples of which were use by U-Boat crews , unfortunately no provenance to say that these two sets came from or saw use on a U-Boat , I have also two leitz 7 x 50 tuna type ( Porro II).
Some photos of these and a few others were posted on an earlier thread in this section on my behalf.
When looking at any Kgm. /U-Boat photos I always first look at what watch crews have around their necks.
The quality of optics is better than most produced today apart from which have you ever wondered what has been seen through these lens and prisms ?

If anyone reading this has any photos of the leitz rubber armoured models 8x60 or 7 x 50 in actual use I would be delighted if you might e-mail me a copy , after a lot of looking I have to date seen them in use only once.
If you have any photographic evidence a pm to me and I will send you my mail address.

Last word.....be in no doubt they are much more than a set of binoculars , they are a piece of history.

They come up here on the WAF for sale from time to time and ebay even more often, but don't sell cheap. I think that in the last five SOS I have seen maybe 2 sets total....so that is less than every other SOS show and again not cheap.

I lucked into to my set at a very small show almost a "woodwork" buy from a non collector/dealer that had just bought them out of a local vet's estate and did not know what they were.......but that kind of random luck is not a collecting strategy!

                              Hello Chaps,

I do know where there are a pair of these exact binoculars (CXN) for sale, still w/ the benutzer lens cap. Could you possibly give a estimated current market price for me to guide on? If it helps you can PM if you wish to keep it discreet.

                              Many thanks.
