Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

                  Hallo MP44 Tom,

Don't know the proper word in English: the bayonet and sheet are gezandstraald of ge-glaspareld. Tom if you like, PM me.

                  Regards, Kees

100% reblued... real phosphating has a diffrent look. this one looks like it was painted almost... ugly.. bleh...

                      K98 bayonet

To me, that overall matt finish - particularly on the bayonet itself - looks as if the whole lot has been sand blasted and then reblued or other chemical treatment.
I have a late-war bayonet with a phosphated scabbard which looks nothing like this, also the bayonet, despite being crudely machine-finished has a smooth finish.

It looks refinished to me. I used to work in a small arms repair shop, and the M-16 bayonets we refinished had the same effect. In America, it is call "Parkerizing"
Also, the phosphate looks too new for an item this old.
                        Just my 2 cents,
                        Johnnie

I think I saw this - or very similar - bayonet on militaria fair in Arlon or in Antwerpen 2 weeks ago....
For sure refinished - to offer and to sale an attractive variant.

Thanks guys, it was my opinion as well, but how many of us have handled real "grey ghosts"

Anyway, it was offered by someone from Belgium, so it could be very possible that this one was spotted.
Well, at least they took an asw coded one to parkerize

                            Thanks again

I've also heard some of the US guys talk about "Naval jelly" which eats the blue & gives this grey look. 43 is too early for phosphate IMHO.

                              best,..Rob
