"The mother all all range finders".

Some photos of a 4 metre range finder which I saw last year at the Belgian Army Museum , Brussels.
This "girl" was in storage in the aircraft hanger - just out of the way beside a 88mm flak gun.

I was allowed to take a few photos of it - unfortunately it had to stay in it's transit case as it would have taken quite a few men to get it out.

I would dearly love some day to get a look through a working example , an think of a few other gents who might want to "crew it".

How does it work - I have not got a clue but it would be fun finding out !

    4 Metre Range Finder.

Another look at her , I know in my heart of hearts she wanted to come home with me but the luggage allowance would not stretch that far .

      4 Metre Range Finder.

Then"techanical shooter" is in the centre - the aimers would be on his left and right .
I know via reference books of two types of this "command device" a "Kommandogert 36" (which used monocular sights) and a "Komandogert 40" (which used binocular sights).
The "402 could measure distances from 1200 to 100,000 metres with 20 or 32 power optical enlargement.
      Crew of five- six.
On the left of the photo - a 12x60 for this range finder.
      (See posts 6 and 7 ).

I sinserely apologise for the use of another members jpeg - a lucky man managed to buy the optic for a "40" complate with their transit case.
An outstanding find , as soon as I can find the post / link I will attached it below.
Have had a look but can''t find it - the gent who posted this jpeg was a very decent gent - i am sorry for not asking first - I posted your jpeg soimply becuase it was so good and in tune with the tread.

                Four Metre Range Finder.

A crew working on the 4 metre.
Note the under slung 12x60 and the mount for it as seen in post 6.
I really am grateful to the owner of the set and jpg ( No 6) , it is a fantastic opportunity to see such a complete set.

The small quicksights (blc) marked for the 12x60 change hands for absolutely silly money.
( occasionally you have to ask if we are wise at all !).

Here is something similar whic Finnish Army sold in 2002 auction. If I recall, nobody was interested in these big ones, and you could have had one for a few hundred. euros. You can imagine my feeling of being there with 120euros in my pocket...
