Zeiss Jena Dekaris 10x50

Great information! Very useful.

I recently acquired a pair of Zeiss 10x50's. The serial number located on the lower washer is: 1823702, which I believe indicates they were made in 1936. There is no RZM code or Deinstglas marking. When did Zeiss start marking their binoculars with the RZM codes, which started circa 1935?

RZM codes are from the Reichzeugmeister, which is the nazi party procurement agency.
Not a government body. They supplied the allgemeine SS and the SA with uniforms, eagles, insignia, flags, daggers, etc.
And a few, very few, binoculars.

It was a party organisation. Supplying the party members and organisations. Like if the GOP today supplied MAGA caps.

RZM marked binoculars are super rare, and has nothing to do with the military.

Dienstglas was usually seen on prewar military binoculars with a full company name like Zeiss or Hensoldt.

Later, when the army code system was introduced, many binoculars were no longer marked Dienstglas as the codes were exclusively used on military binoculars.
A coded pair of binoculars could therefore not be owned by a civilian.

The use of the military codes started around 1940. Dienstglas literally means: Service Binoculars.

Many thanks Mikedenmark. I bought the binoculars at the estate sale of a WW2 army Vet. So, would it have been possible that these binoculars were used by the German military or would they need to have been marked Deinstglas to show military use?

Pictures of 1936 Zeiss 10x50

After taking pictures of the binoculars, I went to FAQ for instructions on how to upload. After clicking on Post Reply (where I am now) it said to click on Manage Attachments, then click on the Browse Button. However, nowhere could I find Manage Attachments. Am I missing a step somewhere?

The manage attachment button should be visible if you scroll down, once you have pushed the reply buttom.

White button, centered way below the message window. It opens a new window where you can upload photo´s.

An alternative is to upload the photos to a suitable online photo service, then show the links to them in a message here.
