A question on dual clawed sniper scope

    Hello,

I have a local collector that has this scope. I had it in my hand but didnt have my phone to take a picture.

    The optics were very clear.

This is what I could make out.

On the left side it has

    Shutz

(couldn't make it out but looks like) Rnt Co. Kassel

on the right side lightly stamped Solar 6x45

He stated it was a early war model before the company codes like CXN.

Have you all heard about a SOLAR or Shutz?

Ill get over there next week and take pics.

    thanks J

Sounds like Carl Schultz & Co. Cassel.

If you go to page 2 of the link here, they mention that the company changed name in 1913. I don´t know if they changed back at a later date, though.

CXN is the wartime code for Emil Busch .

The scope you are describing is a commercial claw mount scope.

they made tons of them and they are of course sold off as sniper scopes.

he either doesn't know or is making up a story..

He did say it was a pre war scope.. didn't slant it as a military issue piece.

Are there tons on the market now? Any sites just deal in German scopes. I'd love to some comparisons to gauge a value..

        Thanks

The market is limited for those types of scopes. Generally each one was fitted by a gunsmith to fit a particular rifle. And they can't be swapped out. Stalking rifles, Drillings, double rifles, and bolt actions can all use those types of scopes.

Those scopes are present at almost all the gun/ militaria shows I go to.

              Soclar 6x 45.
See 2nd row no. 3 I think he misread the schutz & Co into Rut & Co.
