    Cockade of unknown origin

I have been told this was a fire defense cockade, but I am relatively sure I saw one on Hans Baur's hat. He was Hitler's pilot. What do you think? Is it real? I can not figure out how to add the reverse. Let me say it looks like it was burnt, but the front has shiny, chrome-like highlights. It cold not have been burnt.

It was used for civilians attached to the Luftwaffe, and was worn on the band of visor hats:

I soaked it in water over night - cleaned up nicely.

This is what it looked like after soaking in water overnight. I guess it was blood, or dirt, but not burnt.

          Value of item?

Can somebody tell me what this item is worth on a retail market? Thanks for your help. You will notice the holding tabs are unbent, as is the cockade, itself. So this item is unissued, maybe can be cleaned up more..

I don't know the market value but you don't need to clean it more IMO. It's nice with a bit of patina, too.

              Further thoughts on my cockade.

Can ANYBODY give me an idea what this cockade is worth? I would say that it is unissued. Nobody can put those mounting clips back the way they were if it were used, and it is not bent to fit a cap, either. I have been advised by Renaud not to clean it furher. Personally, I do not like the crud on the back. I would not classify it as patina, just crud. I guess the reason Baur had one of these on one of his caps, is that he was an SS officer flying Hitler, and thus not LW. Any comments on this thought?
