LW lanyard fro review and comparison - Assistance most appreciated!

    Hello all,

I purchased this off the Estand a couple of weeks ago and noticed a few inconsistencies between it and an existing LW lanyard I have in my collection:

1: The new lanyard (Grade 2 I believe) body color is silver with what seems to be a dark gray-brown, where as the original lanyard (Grade 3?) has the more common gray-dark blue body colors.

2: The gray-brown sections of #1 are thinner than the gray-blue sections of #2.

3: #1 is missing the top decorative knot, but this may just be lost to time and not an inconsistency.

4: The second knot on #1 (below the badge) is of a different material and wider than #2.

5: Oddly enough, the body of the new lanyard appears to be "backwards" from the original lanyard. The loop pattern appears as though the lanyard was assembled "upside down", because when the lanyards are placed next to one another with the tops at opposite ends, the looping pattern matches up. I have multiple other Heer and Panzer lanyards, and they all follow the looping pattern shown in #2.

6: The details on the swas and wreath of #1 are not as clean as on #2.

Is this lanyard junk or simply an odd variant?

    Thanks for looking!

If anyone has some wisdom to share on this, it would be most appreciated. I'd like to put this to bed one way or another and send it back if it is in fact, bad.

            Hey Greg,

I see you posted the lanyard that I sold you last month for review. If it turns out to be bad I will of course refund your payment immediately. I always send a "follow up" message on anything I sell to make sure the buyer received the package and is happy with the item, I hadn't heard from you so I assumed everything was OK.

For what it's worth this Lanyard was posted in this section (with a larger grouping) for review before I bought it and got no negative feedback. From my limited research, before posting the item sale, I read there are 2 patterns of shooting lanyards (early and late) and I listed the lanyard as a latter 2nd pattern. So maybe that is why the two lanyards look different? Either way if the Lanyard is not good I will most definitely refund your payment.

I will try and find the original post and link it.

EDIT: I added the previous thread below where the lanyard was shown prior to me buying the uniform it was on. Although since it was added by someone and not original to the uniform I decided to sell it.

Both cords 100% originals! The different pattern and color depends on the manufacturer. # 1 cord 6th degree for Luftwaffe. # 2 cord 3rd degree for Luftwaffe anti-aircraft.

Believe me, I know what I 'm talking about. I 've been collecting cords for over 15 years.

Thank you Dmitriy for posting. You sure have quite the collection! Even though I do not focus on lanyards it’s still very impressive! It’s funny you mention the award being a higher grade. Initially when I got it in hand I too felt like the badge was a silver finish (indicating a higher grade) but then I read there were several manufacturers, patterns and also manufacturers who completed the awards sometimes didn’t adhere to regs (correct knots, badges, etc.). So I thought it was safe to just post it as 2nd grade.

Hopefully a few more people can post as to make Greg feel better about his lanyard. Or if it’s bad we can figure that out too.

As Dmitriy said, both original examples.

I'd be very happy to own the flak piece.

                      Thank you for posting Mike!

On a side note I was jumping around on some dealer sites last night and I noticed a lanyard that looks very similar to what Greg has. The coloring is more a black-brown/gray as oppose to the blue you see on his Flak lanyard. Also the knots are very similar when comparing it to the lanyard I sold. I understand it’s not identical to the one sold, but I think it shows coloring can vary as well as the accoutrements of each lanyard.

Credit goes to Peter at the Collector’s Guild for the photos.

Perfectly happy with the Lanyard. It is now in one of the LW cases, and nothing makes it in there until I'm satisfied.
