    LW Panzer near Brest 1944

Saw a nice picture while surfing for some Bretagne history .
Not usual to see , it seems to be the LW Sturmgeschütz 2 unit at a presentation near Brest .

Great photo, used by Brian Davis in his Luftwaffe uniform series. Always assumed from HG and had wondered about lack of sleevebands on the wraps.

I believe also used in Osprey 'Men at Arms' first edition on Hermann Göring Panzer Division. There may be other images taken at or about the same time, if memory serves.

I think HG is a pretty safe bet Mike. The officer at far left wearing a Tuchrock has a cuff title.

The officer also appears to have white collar tabs. Cool photo too!!

                  Hello ,
Not HG, it's in spring 44 in Huelgoat, the only LW units in the area were II nd falschirmKorp and 3rd FJD

These are, of course, elements of the Hermann Goring Division. Brian Davis, who used this photo in his Luftwaffe uniform volumes, described it as being in an "unidentified French town". It is likely not Brest, possibly not even France but it is undeniably HG.

I agree, well known picture (with a fraction of the original image missing) and no doubt showing HG Panz Div., it ticks all the boxes.

it's certainly the market place in Huelgoat , a small town near Brest
                        in the Bretagne .
The question is only when , and who exactly ?
IMO after some more research : the HG in the Bretagne in october 1942 and not 1944 .

IMO all is evident then; the location confirmed, timeframe as well and as said, no question about these being HG troops. The missing part of the photo showing cadre as well wearing the HG cuff title. Based on their uniformed smart appearence this is in all likelyhood a newly formed Panzer unit (and perhaps therefore still missing the cufftitle?).

                            Dear Friends, dear Nick,

Concerning the presence of the HG in Brittany, I have the Gästebuch der Batterie H7 (Marine Flak Batterie Hennebont guest book)).

It was opened by a dedicace of the 11. Panzer–Pionier-Kompanie der Brigade Hermann Göring's officers – unfortunatly undated. On the fifth page is the first date : 6 VIII 42 so the dedicace was done before.

Distance between Huelgoat and Hennebont : about 84 km.

                            https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Huel...d47.802625!3e0

                            Kind regards.

                            C.

In the squadron book on HG, there is another photo from this series with Grenadiers in SS smocks further down loading into panzergrey trucks. This is training from 1942.
