    Luftwaffe greatcoat HELP PLEASE ????

Hello friends. I have a question. I have bought an early Luftwaffe greatcoat (dated 09/1940) but all the buttons are civile and have to be replaced. Now my questions are:

1: do i have to use silver coloured buttons because it is an early greatcoat ?
2: do i have to use hollow or massive buttons?
3: do i have to use blue painted buttons?
4: what size do i have to use and what maker is suited?

I would apreciate some help please? Thanks.

    Hi!

I think in mid 1940 you can use silver or blue buttons.
I have to look if there are any instructions on the color of them.

My greatcoat is from 1938 and has silver massive buttons.
    Maker is P&M.

    Best regards,
    Lukas

So, know I read in my book and it only says: "later in war (from about 1940 I guess) the silver buttons were replaced by blue-grey hollow ones".

I would sew on the silver ones. Looks better in my oppinion.

Here are a few shots of mine.

        Best regards,
        Lukas

If it is an early version (pre war), you must put silver buttons, massiv or not, it doensn't matter because there were several fabrics.
I have one dated 1940 with blue painted buttons.
