    Luftwaffe WWII Tunic Authentication

    Hello,

I have come across this Luftwaffe tunic by accident. I am more a helmet guy than anything else, and was looking for some help.

Could anyone let me know if this piece is authentic, and what to look for, for future reference?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I thought it may be authentic due to the moth holes and aging shown here.

Nothing is original about this piece; as far as repros go it is pretty bad.

Couldn't even put the cuff band on the correct sleeve.

Not a reproduction or a fake but a DRK tunic though.

Thanks guys for saving me on this one. As said before I am not so big in uniforms but this was interesting to hear.

                  I really appreciate the help!

Yes 100% original WW2 German Red Cross tunic pretending to be Luftwaffe.
Typical DRK pigeon gray collar and it is liner-less another Red Cross feature.
The overall charcoal gray wool used is another red flag for it not to be LW,which is more blue-gray!

Thanks for confirming this.As for purchasing the tunic, is it worth attempting to remove the added Luftwaffe bits? Or is it better to pass and purchase an 100% authentic piece.

                      Thanks again.

This is the Red Cross tunic and it's probably original, someone humped it up as a Luftwaffe uniform.

Thanks for that. In your opinion, do you think its worth trying to remove the Luftwaffe parts and adding back the red cross insignias?

Yes totally restorable to DRK. Breast Eagle handstitched on, so that won't leave much damage...The added zig-zag LW officers collar piping needs to be removed as well and that will leave some traces on this enlisted Red Cross uniform,
                            but still worth fixing!

Thanks for the advice! If the seller and I can arrange a fair price, I will try my first fixer upper

If I end up getting the piece I will post another thread showing some better photos and what I have done.

As far as the other collar and shoulder tabs, breast eagle and cuff title, are these all reproduction pieces? Or may I need to use a blacklight to find out their originality.

                              Thanks again!
