    Ground dug Ehrenpokal

Just wanted to share this with everyone! Ehrenpokal awarded to Oberfeldwebel Martin Ketelhut 3./KG2 on July 20, 1942 and DKiG on April 1, 1943. This was just discovered in a garden in Germany. I was fortunate to acquire it!!

                    My goodness!

Something which I would never imagine to see 'ground dug'.

Indeed, an interesting item and begging for some serious research.

Here is a question for all my esteemed colleagues!? Restore it if possible or leave as is and preserve it?

Now that it's no longer protected from the air, I would clean it to preserve it. Otherwise oxidation will slowly eat it away. Of course there are those who believe it's just "patina".

Hi ! Fantastic Find indeed ! I was lucky enough to have met several hundred of Vets (mostly German Cross in Gold bearers) between 1987 and 2006, I have heard a large number of Times that Insignias and Awards were dugged, especially by people of the eastern Germany escaping to the West... They were afraid to get caught on Check-points transporting NS-Stuff... I have heard such Stories numerous time ! But it is the first time that I see something like that surfacing now !! So... Congrats.
Just my Opinion : I would let this Pokal as it is, untouched. I am not convinced that the contact wit the Air will damage it more.... or extremely slowly, this Pokal will survive all of us ;-)
