    Medical academy luftwaffe board

Picked this up recently and wanted to show it off....

I've done some research and there were only 4 Luftwaffe Medical Schools as of late 1944... if anyone had other information I would love to hear it. Here is a link discussing this topic...

    Hi Nate,

What you have here is a board from a Fahnenjunker-feldwebel i.san.korps, a student at the medical akademie of the luftwaffe.
He is in a regular education at a university with the aim of beeing an Luftwaffe doctor. The "A" denotes that he is attached to the academy (Ärztliches akademie d. LW) and it had 3 locations: Berlin-Wittenau, Augsburg and Prague. It is the first "School" on the list you linked to.
The students attended lectures etc in civaln clothes at the universities, and in holidays, summer and winter, they attended either special military courses or went to front-units for practise.

With the rank, he would be in the second or most likely the 3rd semester.

Attached a pict of a board from a medical student who is a feldunterarzt and has passed his theoretical eksam (vorprüfung), and is doing his clinical education.

Here is a set of mine. Notice the "A" and the Rod of Asclepius are one piece.

        Hi Hans,

Your response was very helpful. Where did you find your information? Do you collection medical items or just shoulder boards in general? I bet there are postcards of these schools somewhere.

        Paul:

That is a wonderful board. I've never seen that cypher before. A valuable board ?
        Thanks for posting.

Thank you. I received this set of boards in a trade over a decade ago. I do not know the monetary value, but they are valuable to me. I've never seen another cypher like that before or since.

            Hi Nate,

I collect all things medical and only medical.

And yes, you are right, Postcards exists, but are somewhat difficult to find.

Attached a couple from Ärztliches akademie der Wehrmacht in Berlin and a scan from an old medical journal 1942 of the SS-ärztliches akademie in Graz.
I have a series of 12 original photoes from the LW ärztliches akademie in Berlin-Wittenau. I will find them and scan a few.

Attached here a period picture (postcard) from the Ärztliches akademie der WH in Berlin together with a recent picture.

            Best regards,
            Hans Kristian

The SS-ärztliches akademie in Graz and of today..Rosenberggurtel 12.

The LW medical akademie in Berlin was only barracks and they do not excist today, the akademie in Würzburg was housed in a deaf-mute institution but I have found an adress. In Prague it was located in Hibernergasse no. 5, just by the train station.

Very interesting Hans. They had such beautiful buildings then.

Would the boards I posted be for an instructor, since it is an officer rank?

                  Hi Paul,

Yes, he would be teacher/instructor at the akademy.

And your board looks like LW to me, so either at Berlin-Wittenau, Würzburg or Prague.

Actually, I just found the building in Prague, Hibernergasse 5, now Hybernská. The "5" is visible on the right side of the building (even if google means it is no. 10)
