Can anyone enlighten me as to the history behind the blue gray LW tropical uniforms? Where were they worn, what time period, etc. I've seen a couple on dealer sites, but trying to find out any information about them has proven to be frustratingly difficult.

Here's a nice FLAK one being discussed:

Not necessary for tropical use...but just a "summer wear" (hotter climate) option, like "Sud front"....
Here's mine with repaired pockets!

Hi,
I like LW blue grey tropical uniforms, headgear and fieldgear and collect them.IMO produced in a short period and used on all hot climate fronts .I have many photos showing blue tropical LW uniforms being worn in Italy during 1942 by air crews and airport personal.Maybe not intended for a first line combat troops because of the zero camo efect in comparison with LW tan tropical uniform...but it's just a theory...
Here some of mine tunics
