Nice original example. One with a white pocket sold recently on a dealer's site for 600EUR

Does a period pic or a drawing exist that shows this type of Blendspiegel?

          best regards

No, .. and the reason for that is most probably that the mirror wasn't a personal item ( In my opinion ), but part of a big life boat used by bigger planes with several crew members.
In those boats there was a bag which contained a mirror and several other items they had to share.
The label on the bag says 1 Blendspiegel.

Also the Seenotfibel shows a mirror, then there's a booklet with regulations which also mentions the mirror..

No era pics sofar .. unfortunately .., fighter pilots and Stuka pilots didn't carry a mirror IMO.

            Jos.

              Any more oppinions?

Tomorrow I will have a look on the blendspiegel and probably I will buy it.

What cover is more common. The white or the yellow?

              Best regards,
              Lukas

                Hi Lukas,

I believe that the yellow cover are more common.
I also liked the version that is on the Yellow this Sea survival and the white this winter survival.
                Good Blendspiegel

                Best regards,
                Sergey

Yellow for rescue at see, white for land/snow .., but it's a suggestion, we don't know for sure.
The yellow is more common, I've seen much more of those.. and with much I mean few, cause a good mirror isn't a common item.
I pity the fact that no more pics of survival items are coming to light than what we have seen sofar.
Fact is that these items were not for daily use and were hidden in bags and planes, not too much chance for us to see all there was.

                    Jos.

                      Hey Jos,

                      Thanks for the explanation!
Maybe sometime pictures appear. Who knows.

Since when did the Luftwaffe used FL numbers with 6 numbers?

I guess the Blendspiegel is nothing for my early Bomber crew member!?

                      Best regards,
                      Lukas

So yesterday I picked up the Blendspiegel from a private seller, no collector!
I also have the name of the Flieger. The seller told me that the owner flew Ju52.

By the way, it's my first piece of Seenotausrüstung/sea rescue equipment!

                        Best regards,
                        Lukas

I equiped my early Bomber crew member with it but I guess it's incorrect.

                              Lukas,
Some sunlight(or artificial light) reflecting of it, would look good, for the display.
                              cheers
