    Luftwaffe greatcoat for review.

Hello, I need some opinions about this greatcoat. Thank you for help.

Hi Ir 143, I'm no expert but it looks promising to me. An M40 type (with smaller collar) with LBA (S) for Luftwaffe Bekleidungs Amt (S for Stuttgart I believe) stamp (translating as Luftwaffe Clothing Office, i.e Depot). The condition looks good too. It has 'wartime' painted buttons as used from 1940 (pre-war were bright silvered).

Out of interest, can you make out a date or the size?

Any evidence of collar patches having been applied? They were ordered to be removed from 1st Oct 1942.

    Regards, Paul

Thank you Paul ! The LBA (S) is for Sonneberg in Thüringen. The date looks to be 40. I am not the owner of the coat, I would trade it. Looks to never have got insignias. Thank you.

Hi IR 143, thanks for the correction, you are absolutely right!

Found a German language book on LBA Bielefeld here:-

        http://www.amazon.de/Luftwaffenbekle.../dp/3895347906

        with an associated quote:-

"Im gesamten deutschen Reich gab es damals drei Bekleidungsämter: neben Bielefeld noch Berlin und Sonneberg in Thüringen."

The LBA depots are something I'd like to learn more about one day, better improve my German first, as I suspect it's better covered in German language publications....

        Best regards, Paul
