    LW A.C./FJR or WH Kav./Recon ?

These war-time subdued quality officer shoulder boards were part of a hoard of German Afrika/ Italy items thrown away at the local rubbish dump.

Are they LW or WH ???

How does one tell with wartime subdued boards ?

Any help, advise or guidelines would be appreciated,

    Chris

Subdued and shiny boards were used by both the Luftwaffe and the Heer. Usually shiny ones are Luftwaffe and subdued are Heer, but shiny ones were also used sometimes on - mostly non-combat - uniforms of Heer officers and subdued ones sometimes on combat uniforms of Luftwaffe officers.

So choose what You want them to be if You do not know to whom they belonged pre-1945, as they were manufactured exactly the same way.

For example, I got a nice pair of shiny braid Leutnant slip-on boards on white base. They could be Heer infantry or Luftwaffe HG. The probabilty of them to belong in the latter category is higher but that's it.

          Many thanks for the replies

Based on the items found it could be Afrika or Italy but my feeling is Italy. However, there is evidence of Pz.A.A. 26 and FJR so that is the delimma.

They are not exactly the same. Other than the size difference, the one with the pip is a matt grey braid and the other is matt Perl off-white.

May be I should put one in my LW officer board display and the other in WH display ? That way I cover both bases because I might not be able to narrow it down,
