I have seen a only a few photos of LW troops wearing what looks to be Gebirgsjaeger shoes. How proper would it be to display a LW field division troop in IT camo/tropical uniform items wearing GJ shoes for the Italian theater?

Yes an accurate idea... = foot wear adapted for terrain, so appropriate and common in Italy. LW troops (Field Div, HG and paratroopers) fought as infantry
in mountain regions/passes where such shoes made sense if they could obtain them! Even SS troops (non mountain) wore such climbing shoes in Italy. (LAH)Last edited by NickG; 06-08-2015, 12:54 PM. -

Great. Thanks for the comments and confirmation. I have spent too much on nice late war schnurschue and was balking at getting another set for the IT campaign uniform. The GJ shoes are significantly less in price and they look good. Happy to get a confirmation on the historical accuracy with the excellent images.

Luftwaffe people did wear these boots, yes, even pilots did ..
Why would you buy a single red painted shoe and go through some trouble, while there're plenty of nice pairs to be found ?

It will be difficult to find the other Sinterklas boot, so I am looking at these.
On a serious note, I have studied several examples on the WAF and think these are good based on:
1. the shape and construction
2. the cleats
3. markings inside and outside
4. Rieke stamp on bottom
I am hesitant because of the following:
1. the ink stamp on the inside. Could be a post was captured boot stamp from another European company
2. Anti-chafing band is made of leather and not grey cloth. I have not seen this before.
I was hoping I could get a few definitive comments on these boots. I think they would look nice with a walking out uniform from Italy.
