Picked this one up today, assume original as it came in a vets brings box.

Roughly 8.5 cm wing tip to wing tip.
Not sure if its a cap or breast eagle.

Black backing? mechanic or HG??

Superb example, regardless of type! I don't recall measurements off hand, so perhaps somebody else could confirm that for you. The styling is more along the lines of breast eagles I've seen as opposed to headgear eagles I've seen. Although that's simply an observation of trend, nothing more.

Is the color truly black? The blue-grey spectrum is vast, and the blues can sometimes be so dark that they appear to be black. If it's truly black, then I'd confidently say HG.

I was worried about the color as some might say it's dark blue purple and others black.

Out in natural light I say black, friend and wife both said black...

Was leaning towards a breast eagle but no expert here.

IMHO since it measures 85mm from wing tip to wing tip that it is a breast eagle. That would be rather large for a cap eagle.

Vix - there is a tremendous variance in actual color ranges seen, which is further compounded by the hues that somebody actually sees. There are differences in lighting, monitors, etc. But interestingly, there is an article you should Google about some dress somebody posted online which caused a big uproar - some saw blue and black, others saw white and gold. My wife shared it with me and we both saw something different. So, sometimes it's just very, very difficult to discern what's what.
