Here is a picture I posted a little while ago of my tail piece given to me by an ex-RAF neighbor.

Fake....One easy tell are the "stringers" on the reverse. Period stringers I've seen were typically wider with two rows of rivets. Also, although I haven't seen a ton of originals, the ones I have seen are bare metal on the reverse. That may be related to when the plane was built though. I do know of an early war FW-190 fin that is bare metal on the reverse.

OSS, believe me, I haven't. I plan to get to the bottom of this and have already been in contact with a person who is familiar with these tail sections and believes there is a good chance that this tail section is original. I'll post more photos as soon as possible and will keep everyone posted.

Some are painted on the reverse, some are not but the stringers and fasteners are always the same to my knowledge.

Just thinking out aloud but maybe the panel is from one of the Spanish Hispano built ME109's or Buchon's as they are known because apparently the airframes were supplied without the tail assemblies which might explain the different stringers and fasteners.

Barry, Me-109 tail sections were rarely solid blue without camo, and really only encountered early in the war, so that would concern me. I also agree the construction details on the back are not the same as the others shown, and am curious about what appears to be black over spray on some of the white areas. Just concerns as I am no authority on aircraft pieces.

What the hell - for 60 bucks, hang it in your war room and be happy with it. I would agree with the majority of folks on here that it is not an original tail piece from any sort of German WWII aircraft.
