This is where I would start my 'research':-

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...waffe+sidecaps

I, too, remember the earlier 'thread' and the particular lining of those caps.

There are aspects of the cap depicted in this thread which remind me of early (1960's)BW caps.

      Hi N,

I think this thread is created to display indisputable, collectible LW O/S cap.

      Best regards,
      Sergey

        I can believe that.

That's why I referred you to it.

The more significant the variation(s) from the accepted norm, the greater the chance it is not "of the period". In this period of time (ie. now), when there seems to be a general reluctance to study textbooks and a preference to seek opinion from others, I always feel some initial research should be done by the querist first, so that the opinions sought will need to have some basis in objective fact. I do not feel a "not for me", or the like comment, is sufficient in terms of a reasoned opinion.

Yesterday I learned that this is one of those caps.
Maybe these photos will give a larger view.

Just a question here: did the BDH sidecaps have a half leather band inside ? I thought that no but I could be wrong or it could have been replaced after.

I remember well an old thread showing this yellow lining in period caps. But what about BDH caps ?

The only thing I have concern about this cap is the shape itself: I like to see a true good banana shape. Period pics very often show this banana shape while BDH side caps have a "flat" shape (like this one).

If this one was offered to me for a good price, I'll take the risk....

Probably so. but do not forget about private orders.
