    LW Hauptmann Tunic

    Hello,
This tunic was in the estate of a recently deceased collector. Unfortunately, he had a lot of repro medals and badges and a couple of repro tunics, but IMO this tunic looks nice and the insignia most likely original to it. The eagle is handsewn so I suppose it could be replaced, but it is tight and I can't see any sign of another eagle being there. The collector did have loops for a DKiG added, but these were in bright blue synthetic thread. The other loops look original to me. I am no expert in LW uniforms, however, and wanted to get the opinions of those who know more than I do.
    Thank you,
    Dale

                  Replaced Eagle.
                  Replaced Collar tabs
                  Replaced shoulder boards
                  New DKiG loops (as mentioned)

                  Original tunic
                  Original loops on left breast.

I have been following the threads you have posted of the items from this collection. He sure would have benefited from belonging to a forum.

Thanks Adam. Well, shows what I know as the collar tabs and boards looked fine to me. At least it's not an outright repro like a lot of his things were. According to those that knew him better than I, he refused to use computers and was way too trusting of dealers despite warnings from friends.

Hello, I will note that the breast eagle looks fine to me and it seems to be stitched with the same thread and same technique as the collar base at the neck. I like it. Best, Bill

Perhaps wartime if sewn by the drunk apprentice. It's not done by a practiced hand which is what you see on all tailor made officer uniforms. JMO.

Under the collar is less important obviously as it is not visible. And you will notice the collar stitching is still fairly uniform in stitch length and spacing. The eagle has different stitch lengths, angles and tightness.
