Me109 Tail Fin and Both Swastikas - ITALY FIND

    Hey guys...

    Found this recently...

Was found at Viterbo airport in Italy in 1944 (removed from a derelict aircraft). It has a partial werk number, indicating it is from an Me109 G6.

One bullet hole, and some damage to the antenna mount, but otherwise pretty solid.

              It's a lot of money!
Does the requested price reflect the actual value of the item?
I don't see tail fins for sale too often so I have nothing to compare...

Wow that is a nice tail piece with two sides. A lot of cash, I have one side of aJu88 tail. Crash landed in Ireland. Would sell it for half that price. You are getting 2 sides and its a me 109. They are still out there!

Fighter pieces like this do tend to go for a lot. recently a Fw tail piece went for around $14k at auction. The bomber stuff is less desirable as far as I'm concerned.

                      Me vs Bf-109

Officially the correct nomenclature is Bf-109 due to the feud between GFM Milch and Messerschmitt, where GFM Milch as head of re-armament in Germany forced the 109 to be named under previous company Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BF). The Bf-109 was such a superior aircraft at the time, that GFM Milch was forced to accept it. GFM Milch did not like Willy Messerschmitt and did not want Messerschmitt on the name of the fighter. Willy Messerschmitt designed the plane and own the company, so though Bf-109 is the correct designation on official documents, at heart it is still a Messerschmitt 109 at heart. Also on this side of the pond because the WW2 USAAF airmen veterans called them Messerschmitts, the name stuck.

                        Merdock,

                        Me109 is just as correct.

Official documents show both terms being used, and I prefer "Me". For some reason, collectors in the UK prefer "Bf"...while the rest of the world prefers "Me"...

Even veterans call it an Me109...so that is what I prefer.
