I picked this up at a flea market years and years ago and just came across it again. It really looks like a good staffel badge to me but what say you?

Hi Mike,
Thank you for the reply. I picked it up around 1980-81 in the Frankfurt area and squirreled it away until coming across it the other day. I too think it's good, the enamel is quite good and I think it had been attached to a plaques or something which is why the pin is missing.
Cheers
GaryOriginally posted by Mike Watson View PostHi Gary.I think the pin refers to 3/JG54. It represents a cartoon hunter, taken from the children's book Struwwelpeter, collecting spitfires. It dates from 1940 until sometime in 1941. I like the badge and think that it's original but without the pin it's difficult to be sure.

Could it be a post war association stickpin made for survivors of that group?
Is the enamel plastic or glass?
The only problem I see other than the pin being cut is why the rifle barrel has those cross pieces .....still nice regardless. I would assume either way, seems like a PP item. One more thing ....I would usually expect to see a makers mark on most stick pins made in war time.
