Could NCO's wear white summer tunics?

Someone once mentioned that LW EM/NCOs were not allowed to wear the white summer tunic--only officers.
However, they were allowed to wear the white-top visor (as per this pic).
    Is that correct?:

Found this image on the web...NCO with a closed neck (Army? pressed open) white uniform...
    Both soldiers should swap caps!

      Hi stonemint,

I don't have access to my manuals right now. But, going off of memory, I believe this is correct. Only officers were authorized to wear summer tunics from April to September (I think).

If anybody can look at regulations quickly, they can confirm.

        From B.L. Davis, Volume 1 'Uniforms & Insignia of the Luftwaffe 1933 - 1940'
        Page 228.

        NCO's and Other Ranks.

"NCO's and men of the pre-war Luftwaffe were issued with white linen trousers which, when worn in conjunction with their issue blue-grey Uniform Tunic, white shirt and black tie, black laced up leather shoes, white cotton gloves and the white topped Summer Cap, constituted Walking Out Summer Dress for the rank and file."

            Hi Chris and Nick,
Just a thought on the pic from Nic,,
I wonder if the guy in the white jacket was a officer aspirant, looking at his rank, hence he has taken the liberty of wearing a white jacket, as Bob said, would normally be reserved for officers, according the information supplied by Bob.

Wayne that is correct, officer aspirant was allowed to kit up with officerstyle tunics, visors etc...here a LW unterarzt in that situation..

So why not a white summer tunic..?..

If the Oberfeldwebel in post #2 were an officer aspirant he would have worn the officer cords on his cap, aluminium cord round his shoulder straps, and also aluminium piping round the collar instead of the one in branch colour that he wears.
I'd say he's just an ordinary guy with a very good dress sense...

I have a set of orange LW EM Tabs with four snaps on the back of each. I assume these are for placement onto a white tunic.

                              Hi Bob,

good to hear from you - that might be. An untypical jacket from my point of view anyway - but white...

                              Cheers,

                              Jack
