Nice. Hate to say it but I guess $450 is a fair price. Jim

Yes....a few of these have cropped up in the last year - all above the $400 mark. Once one sells for a high price, others come out of the woodwork.

Yup, hard to find if you need one, other times there're 3 all at once, but all sold for high price .. and that without any chocolate or even the smell..

Can someone explain to person with little LW knowledge as to why its such a big deal? Was this a tin issued to pilots survival kit or just a collectors edition ?

It's for survival, so not too many of them are around or did survive.

Has anybody noticed that there were tins with two different weight content? 90Gr. and 100Gr.
Shortages as war progressed? this 90gr. tin is dated Febr.1943. I guess the 100gr. ones are 1942 backwards. Size looks the same.
                  Please check dates in yours

                  Regards
                  Fran

yes, either weight was available....strange because the difference of 10g is not that much, so why have 2 weights available - probably cutbacks and the 90g was produced later.

                        Harry,
What are the dates imprinted in the base of your tins? it could be interesting to narrow and establish when the 90gr. ration started to be produced

One interesting detail is there is not mention to the caffeine content, or... was just chocolate? you know, in a dinghy awaiting to be rescued there is no need to be extra excited; is more a matter of serenity...

                        Regards
                        Francisco

Found this at Jim Pool's book; as early as Nov.1942

                            Just seen.
Very good condition but, justify the remnants of inner wrapping the paid price of 850 EUR ?
