I tend to believe both pieces, perhaps the strap is not tropical but for the white summer tunic (it looks white).

Agree on both. The strap appears to have a white wool underlay which reflects summer tunic IMHO.

I believe it was white when it was manufactured, of couse that was 65+ years ago and "obviously" a little yellowing has occured in the interim.

Hmm, don't know if anybody can show us straps which are made of this same particular fabric in white for the white tunic ..?
I've seen few, very few era pics of white straps and I didn't have the illusion that these were made of heavy fabric like this.
If Tropical tunics have straps made of the fabric same as the tunic, why should white tunic have straps made of the same heavy fabric ?
It would be easier to use the same fabric as the tunic, which should mean waffled ( unlikely) or white smooth cotton ( more likely) ..
Are there any white Summer tunics made of the exact fabric as the standard tropical tunics ?
In my opinon they were made of waffled fabric or a lighter kind of cotton fabric, so original white straps should match one way or another and not look like this bleached tropical one.
IMO all German luft tunics had their own matching straps made of the same fabric/cloth, or blue ones were used or straps invented for the shirt were used.
Besides that NCO white tunics are hardly seen and to find straps for them would be quite difficult, if not impossible IMO.
Those who wore a tunic most probably had their blue straps on them IMO.
I would be delighted to see some pics of NCO's in white tunics all textbook, cause they have my interest.

                Jos.

As always, you are free to disregard any opinions or advice you may come across on the Forum. I am not interested enough in this subject to engage in an extensive discussion here. Let me say that there were two singles like this one at the SOS from an old collection which I saw George Petersen purchase. I don't have a great depth of knowledge on Summer tunics, but I am well versed in LW tropical uniforms and insignia and can tell you this is not a tropical strap, and furthermore if you encounter a tropical LW strap with wool backing (as this one has), I suggest you resist the temptation to add it to your collection.
