Hello all,
I have just bought this life jacket, I collect British and Belgian militaria so this is not in area of collecting but it was only 35 euro and dated 1940 so i bought it (not knowing what it exactly was )
I have just done some research:
this should be a Schwimmweste 10-30 first model ? mostly used by German fighter pilots and bomb crews.
- it is in a very good condition (no holes, or damages)
- still quite flexible, not cracking!
- dated june 19 1940 (just before the battle of britain?)
cylinder dated june 26 1940
I Can't find this type for sale on the internet except here: http://www.tigercollectibles.co.uk/f...hwimmweste.htm
it's 2200£ (but damaged) is this a good price? or what is their general value?
also on germanmilitaria is saw a later type (B2) for sale for $5,235 but I know from previous expierence they are almost always way overpriced ...
On the one to last photo you can see a seal still attached to the oxygen cylinder, what is its purpose?
On the label you can see " K. Sch." could these be the initials from the first owner?
I'm afraid this is not researchable without more information?
Any more information or comments are welcome
Regards, Stef
