    Blue HBT Tunic With Trousers

I believe that we think the trousers that go with the blue HBT tunics are straight-legged variety, though at least one forum members has seen a blue HBT leg-pocket type.

This tunic is a standard four pocket of the HBT variety. A couple of points on it: it came with blue HBT flight or paratrooper boards that are original and appear original to the tunic. I have read where these type tunics were more service troops related, and not associated so much with combat types. This seems to contradict that viewpoint.

It is also later, with an issue date of 1943, and looks it: scrap construction on the liner materials.

The trousers are more worn, and I can not make out any markings. It is also made up of a variety of scrap pieces. The aluminum buckles are common to LW HBT trousers and shorts, and that and dish buttons complete this pair.

    What do you think?

    regards, Robert

                    Hi there!

I like the jacket, not the way the eagle its sewn, but I'm not a fan of the trousers... Never see this kind of model in blue hbt. The trousers that match with the jacket got straight legs and not large leg pocket.

                    Best,

I'd say the eagle was reapplied, which is not a big thing to me - most are. I'm happy that it hasn't been "tuned up" with sleeve rank, collar tabs, cufftitles and the like - those yellow flight or paratrooper shoulderboards make collectors do some dumb things.

At least one big time Luftwaffe collector has seen the blue HBTs with the large pocket, and I think it would be very odd to make ONE knock-off of these things. They are not exactly something that there's a demand for in blue!

I thought at first they were the oatmeal colored HBT type with the leg pocket that somone had dyed blue, but they have white and other non-blue shade materials in their lining make-up. They are very curious to me.

Billbert, thanks for the note on the LW doctor's tunic. I believe the jackets do pop up from time to time, more rare than the reed green HBT but still out there.

                      regards, Robert
