    Paul,

I think people are misinterpreting Paul's reasons for cutting back. Many collectors don't have a focus, or it frequently shifts, meaning there is always something to catch their eye in a new area of TR collecting. In this case, Paul had a specific goal to collect a very narrow window of LW ephemera, and he's acquired most of what he had envisioned. There's nothing sad about it, in my mind. No burn out...just the realization of a specific goal.

Paul - I think congratulations are in order. You had specific goals for your LW collection, and you've attained it! I can't wait for that day to come in my own collection. I am working toward the same thing. It will be very interesting to see what you pick up next. Of course I know you will be here as time permits.

    All the best,

    J-

Well said by Jason. I agree. I have a specific area that I am trying to collect in luft, and I have a lot of it, and the remainder is very hard to find. So now I may be lucky to get one piece a year...But the search is on. Luckily for me there are other areas I am really intrigued by also, so I concentrate on them...Another collector mentioned it comes in waves. I agree with that also, sometimes one can be really enthusiastic about a field, and then is subsides and then it may be a long time but hopefully the bug comes back again. But of course prices, fakes, etc...take a huge bite out of the enjoyability. Just got to keep on learning.

I think AH was referring to Fat Hermann!

PaulR...variety is the spice of life! I have interests in other areas than just LW although I haven't lost the desire in collecting LW yet!!

                Hi,
We all have our up's and downs ,I once collected women never go back there full time, then wasted lots on silly cars ,both ideas are money pits, when the times right still my dabble in cars.
Don't specalise in any branch or subject so have never got bored ,will only give up either when the grim reaper comes knocking[again] or I get a bit of notice first.
                All the best Mark

                  Paul,

                  Happy New Year.

Around 2005 I went through exactly what you're experiencing. The problem is that everything in the Luft field is basically blue/grey.

Now, I've diversified into a little bit of everything and I've never been happier.

                    Couldnt agree more there Pablo,

Although I do agree that some collectors over time experience apathy / burnout with their collecting and sometimes a time out is all that is needed to find the fire again.

Regarding the state of the world economy..............nothing has been fixed since 2008 and we all seem to be living in a perpetual state of uncertainty about where the global markets are heading. My bet is on deflation in all that you own, inflation in all that you need.

i fully understand what you are saying and the same best wishes to you sir.

kw2, im not sure exactly why but as their is so much uncertinally going on in the u.s, Europe and the rest of the world peoples focus is changing as so many are out of jobs, will the have a job for much longer?, pay rises are not happening and the only way governments seem to know is to tax people more = less $$ for things like collecting.
at times like the world is going through now collecting is not a number 1 priority at the moment for a lot of people.

(I hope Paul sees this) Well I for one am HAPPY to see Paul go....he has been the continual "proverbial thorn in my side" when it comes to collecting Luftwaffe collar tabs. All of the Admin tab holes in my collection reside in Paul's vast Admin tab collection. He has beat me to the purchase on several critical pieces for my collection.....

Of course I am kidding. Paul and I go back a long way and have even authored an article together on tabs. I spoke with him yesterday and he is not leaving the hobby just shifting interests.....I am sure he will be back to Luft when enticed with the right piece.

He has to come back since we have 4 more articles to write on tabs (one of which is 1/2 done!).
