    Unusual Survival Item?

This pic was just sold on ebay - it shows a pilot emerging from the sea, suposedly in 1940, on the French coast. The ring-shaped item is interesting - anyone any ideas? I picked up a lot from an estate many years ago and it included such a ring-shaped thingy, but never found out its use. I will try to get pics of it later

Hello! Can it be a Donut?...... Large size to survive many days.

Sounds interesting what you have got, waiting for pics of it , is there any markings?

I think its a survival ring..tossed to someone in the water to grab onto and be pulled to their rescue..and he is probably still clutching it due to the trama of water crash landing..JMHO Billbert

          Cold water, huh ?

Yes, it might be a inflatable ring to throw towards the crashed pilot or to keep the head above surface or something like that.., these sausage vests didn't last forever, seems that they did absorb water after a x amount of hours..

Tough day, first you're shot down into the ocean and almost drown...then your surrounded by a bunch of naked men.

I guess the victor just flew back to the bar and was surrounded by pretty women in celebration.
