        The 'sales pitch':-

"Manufactured in blue wool, this private purchase Fliegerbluse is in MINT used condition! It features an embroidered 2nd Pattern Adler that is hand-stitched to the right breast. The left breast featured numerous horizontal and vertical loops to attach various awards and medals. No marks, wear, damage or holes!

The collars feature two gulls indicating the rank of Unteroffizier, with matching shoulder board. All are original to this jacket.

The interior of the flight blouse is fully lined in grey rayon, however there is no sleeve lining (appears it never had one). The lining features one pocket at each breast, as well as a smaller vertical pocket near the bottom. The lining also has a belt strap to each side, positioned at the waistline. Also features the manufacture and size information on the left inside pocket.

Overall, this flight blouse ins in AMAZING used condition, with only slight wear to the inside cuff, pocket and collar edges. The flight blouse is roughly a 36, so it would fit most anyone with a small build.

EASILY the nicest I have owned of this type, it is overall a SUPERB example...would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!"

It is not a private purchase item. I only see one 'gull' per tab, but if he means two in total, where is the tresse? The boards don't match (it's a basic flieger tunic). Given the condition (assuming the eagle has been 'edited' and not defaced, but even so - "hand stitched" = not original to period).

Adam S has a much nicer (and more original condition) one on Estand, for less. The seller has done very well.

Thanks for all the comments! I don't think anyone paid anywhere near that price. It was removed from sale.

                Then harrison987 has done well.

AdamS should reconsider lowering his price further on Estand, or perhaps consider selling it on Ebay.

What would be a fair value for this?

"Value" is a relative concept. It is entirely subjective. I have the shell of a Fallschirm helm. It came from the veteran who picked it up on the battlefield at Cassino. It has damage and no liner or straps (long since lost/thrown away). It was used by the veterans children as a 'dress-up' item. But it has provenance. For me, it is 'priceless'. When I die, the chain of provenance is broken. It then becomes what it is - a beaten-up shell, albeit of a fairly desireable WW2 collectable. To a collector of helmets it is a very poor example, probably worth (at best) a couple of hundred dollars. That is nature of 'value'.

What is more easily determined is "price". That is what a willing vendor is prepared to accept and a willing purchaser prepared to pay. In this case, the fliegerbluse of AdamS can be seen as a 'comparable' item. So, too, the officers example which (last time I looked) was on offer on Estand. Either of these will probably set you back $1,000 or thereabouts. Clearly, then, what was offered on Ebay was of a substantially higher price, at least 25 to 33% more than the items available here.

My advice is to look at what else is available. Take into account condition and originality (in terms of attached insignia) and, ultimately, how much you want to pay/are prepared to pay/can pay. At the end of the day, one measures the price paid to the value produced (how you 'feel' about the item acquired).

At that point, price and value merge.
