      I think the '22' may be a manufacturer's code of some kind, as it appears with some frequency on the reverse of LW officer collar tabs.

        Agree: '22' is a sort of stock numbers, nothing to relate to the numbers on the badges...

                    I'm pretty sure they go for more than that.

                    I look at it this way:

                    If my $4-5000.00 General's hat is missing an eagle what is the hat worth now ?

                    And how much am I willing to pay to remedy that ?

                      I said it was just a guess. I haven't felt compelled to buy one in over 30 years and just don't pay attention to what people want for them.
