    WW1 aviators helment

All...... I'm hoping by posting my latest find here that someone might have some WW1 avaiation knowledge. This find came direct from the widow of a U. S. pilot who lost his life in Feb. 1945. He had mailed these items before his death. A helment which looks to be an aviator's helment but missing the front coat of arms from some country. There is an impression in the leather that has a 5 pointed crown over the birs body and spread legs with talons and tail feathers. Any and all help and suggestions will benefit all the air corps collectors. You can see additional pictures on my web site under the uniform folder, www.relicsofthereichs.com

    Best regards........ Myky

I believe that the helmet is a Spanish tanker / dispatch riders helmet missing the front eagle.

Daniel, thanks for the reply guy. That's as good a guess as any. I've checked all the period styles of motorcycle helments, and they all seem to have vizors on them. I've never seen a tankers helment so I'm blind there. I guess we won't know until we find a picture of the eagle that fits the impression on the front of the helment. But....... this is what makes our hobby so interesting : )

      God bless......... Myky

Daniel, after doing some research on Wikipedia I find that the Spanish emblem has the lion, not an eagle. And the Polish emblem is the only single headed eagle that wears a crown. The Brandenburg emblem is close, but no crown. So, the closest I can come to the solution is a WW1 Polish airforce helment. I hope someone can either verify or discount it.

        God bless....... Myky
