[I have never seen an early LW shirt before, certainly not one with a detachable collar. Does anyone have an example they could show?

    Thanks again for any input.

Thank you for the links, John. I did in fact do a search for these shirts - but only in the LW forum. I found several later models and, compared to mine, the lack of pockets on earlier shirts threw me off. I never even thought of looking in the Heer forum!

Thanks also Harry. That is a great looking shirt you have, in fine condition. This gives me a much better idea of what my shirt will have looked like before it was personalised by the previous owner.

And yours is very interesting and desirable in it's modified condition Matthew.

              Hi,

I have also one, but in hard worn condition with a lot of repair. The shirt is still without pockets and collar. I will post pictures later

Eagle detail of a later blue shirt, manufactured with pockets and original eagle. The pebbled pocket buttons were added by the officer who wore the shirt.

                    Certainly Paul,

Currently have no digital photos of it, will shoot some when work permits and post them.

                      Hello John,

I would also love to see the rest of that officer's shirt. It is strange that the material behind the eagle seems to be from the earlier style shirts, but doesn't quite match the later material of this shirt. I guess this happened quite a lot during wartime production.

                        Hi Matthew,

The officer's shirt is a lightweight blue-grey cotton, similar in weight to many Luftwaffe tropical shirts. The cut is identical to the pullover Luftwaffe tropical shirt; exactly like the shirt illustrated on pages 169 through 171 in German Paratroops in North Africa.

                        Photos asap.

                        John

Absolutely hard worn shirt, but still original without collar.

Here is the entire shirt requested from the earlier detail photo.

Shirts of the same style can be seen on p.91 of The German Africa Corps by Kurtz.
