Not just for generals, but for all entitled to wear the mess dress. Not always worn with the "dress shirt", but worn many times and a nice accoutrement for a display of a mess dress. All the ones I have personally seen and owned, for whatever that is worth, were gilded.

Could the Heer style eagle links be gold for KM and silver for Heer along the lines of summer uniform breast eagles or did KM have distinctive ones (eg: with anchors like uniform buttons?)
