    Any Real Piped LW White-Tops?

    LW Collectors:

As we all know, fakes and reproductions abound of LW white-tops that have waffenfarbe on the EM/NCO white-tops and silver piping for officers.
(I am talking about the top ring of piping, around the crown of the hat).

We also know that this was specifically prohibited by regulations--piped white-tops were not allowed (and this is true for almost every TR organisation).

This is what I am talking about as far as fakes are concerened--this one for an officer:

This is one from the old Moran book with yellow piping around the crown. This maker has been faked, but this one appears to have a chance to be an original. Note that it has a wool body, which has yellowed with age.

I have yet to see a LW top-piped in person that I believed to be original.
Has anyone seen one that they believe is original, or have they seen this hat in person?

Any period pics of a color-piped white-top in wear?

Gene, it could very well be a bad one, but I need to see under the hood.

I would have to believe that one of the primary reasons for the prohibition against colored piping on the white top was due to uniformity--if the white top was washable, and had a piped top, it would obviously fade/run with multiple washings.

However, uniform regs were regularly broken during the TR. I have to believe that there are period pics of piped white-tops out there.

If we look hard enough, and long enough, we'll find one. I'm confident of that. Like you said, Chris, regulations were broken all the time. Permanent tops on these summer visors were prohibiited too, but those exist. I've seen a white general's top with a gold-piped crown, but haven't seen under the hood on that, either, so no telling whether it's 100%.

Chris - I love this cap from the outside. Obviously we'd need to see interior shots. My hunch is that the eagle's been resewn sometime post-war. Just a hunch.

Bob sent me this cover of Guns n' Ammo from 1977 with a gilt-piped white top (don't know if these was attributed to Goering at the time).

Hat does not give me the warm fuzzies.....

No interior pics, but I can imagine what it looks like inside:

What do you think about this summer white top, which I have at the e-stand (in the photo section) right now?

It came from a house clearance from a professional house clearer together with a photo album.

I don´t want to sell any fakes so it would be great if you could have a look on it.
