Numbers on boards

May be a silly question, but what does the number "6" signify as found on LW officer shoulder boards (flight/para).

As far as I am aware the only numbers on Luftwaffe golden yellow waffenfarbe were Roman Numerals for Recruiting Offices. Could it be an Army waffenrock board?
