Odd stitiching on Shoulder Board piping.

Here is a photo of a pair of gen-yoo-ine repro LW shoulder boards (even has gen-yoo-ine moth holes). I was struck by the odd blanket stitch used to sew on the piping.

Looks kind of familiar - Bundeswehr, maybe? I was wondering if this stitch was ever used on TR era boards, or is it a certain sign of post war?

I just ran into another pair of boards like this - with the perpendicular stitching going into the piping. These ones are being offered as original, from a vet's estate.

Did wartime boards ever use this style of stitching?
