    Pilot leather jacket

This jacket is offered by Peter v. Lukacs, I think is a civil jacket with added insignia, this is not a pilot style jacket of the WWII. What do you think?

    Regards
    Mike

Agree, it is a motorcycle jacket, not only with added insignia but also military buttons/shoulder loops. I would say it could be period but most likely early 1950s

Without some sort of provenance, these civil flight jackets are not worth considering IMO. No way on this one....

The buttons looks newer than the jacket

Marseille used to wear the same jacket in black

Yes, Marseille had a different jacket..

Found a pic with a similar one like the one in question, only without pocket flaps ..

When rather worn, they should've traces at the back IMO, rubbing of the swimmingvest, chute ..

Stefan Litjens (2nd pic) ... his jacket is different, also. Only eight buttons instead of ten, for example.

Yes, it's not a match, but pics reveal hundreds of civilian jackets being worn, it all comes to provenance or what they tell you, for example a heavily worn jacket with a intact bullion eagle isn't a good start IMO...

Here's a shot of Priller's bullion badge, not much left of it ..

                      Hi there!

As stated, without provenience, is difficult, with these jackets...

It's really easy take a period (or around that) 'motorcycle' jacket, put on nazi regalia and increase considerably its worth...

                      Cheers!

A couple of points to notice, Possibly good points, Looks like it has had some insignia on it previously as you can see the outline of it, under the current insignia, shows some crease lines down either side of the chest area where a chute or harness, but not alot on the collar, wear in the stomach area of a chute release would be, buttons look newer than the jacket, wonder if the loops for the boards are made from the same leather as the jacket?\
                        cheers

                          Sorry but I disagree.

If you look at the insignia you will see that it has been stitched on with the wrong type of needle and thread for leather. A common household needle has been used and the thread is not waxed. This has resulted in the holes being too small and the thread cutting into the leather instead of sliding with it. What looks like a ghost of previous insignia is in fact just the thread slicing the leather.

The crease lines down the front also extend up to the collar area (at a slight angle) and you can see where the jacket has been unbuttoned and just folded up. The wear in the stomach area is probably from a belt and the shoulder loops could well be from any removed belt loops if they match the jacket.

Speaking of the shoulder loops and buttons, they are in the wrong place and too far back on the jacket. Most people get this wrong because they think the loops and buttons are on the shoulder seam.

                          .

These jackets are an absolute minefield. Lucky for me I got mine from a vet's family when stationed in Germany, and I have to say a real one really speaks to you

Nice french-made jacket, with 'Eclair' zipp. It have a light brown wool lining or 'scottish' one? Mine have the second one, and the same feature of your.

                              Cheers!
