    Luftwaffe FD Apron

    Hello guys,

I just visited therupturedduck for the latest update. In the uniform section there is a LW FD apron. Is anybody familiar with these? I've never seen it before and I have never seen the HBT sumpf except for the FJ helmet covers. I would like to learn more....

Thanks in advance for he input guys!!

I was always lead to believe that the apron was an early war item. I have only ever seen them in splinter pattern. With the discovery of this example in sumpf and RB numbered it would appear that the aprons are either late war or were in use all the time.
As for them being solely used by Luftwaffe FD, the aprons I have seen were in splinter A, so that rules that out.

      What does "apron" mean here?

Coming from military flying, an apron is for me a place in front of the hangar where aircraft are parked ... makes no sense here, of course.

A look to the dictionary didn't make me smarter, unfortunately.

Very weird. I can honestly say that having looked at 100's if not 1000's of photos attributed to the field divisions, I've never seen one of these in wear. To me, the markings are highly suspect. Why would a piece such as this that really has no size since it is just draped over you, would it have a size marking of "1"?

If I would have encountered such a piece without reading this thread before, I would have said it is a working apron made of old surplus Sumpftarn fabric after the war ...
