General Meindl's customized Luftwaffe M43 is one of my favorites with golden Generals visor cap cords added with golden cap cord side buttons and a large tunic size single golden flap button added! I don't see any crown piping....
The eagle is golden bullion no doubt! Here's a front view and a side view!

Does anyone has a good picture of Meindl's cap ?
It looks like the cap has a EM eagle rather than a golden bullion one, that's probably why he added the golden cap cord to distinguish him from the rest of the members .., just a guess..

      Hi there!

The Meindl's eagle, looks like an EM bird... So me also believe that is not golden bullion.

      IMHO, obviusly!

I think you guys are right ........
So even Meindl settled for an enlisted bird! (enlisted cap with out crown piping)
I was assuming a golden eagle because of the color plate illustration...
but that's obviously just an artist's rendition....

Bottom line with Luft M43's; anything is possible.... enlisted and officers caps all worn,
either governent issue enlisted and modified for officer use, private purchase etc...
This based on availability, personal preference and security....

Obvioulsy Meindl was not too concerned with security (sniper scare) with his added golden cap cords,
but he probably was not putting himself much in the line of fire.... as a senior commander!

Anyone owns Meindl's cap perhaps ?

Here's a color dia showing Meindl with Rommel and it looks that the cap eagle is white, another dia is showing a gold eagle, but the colors are very unrealistic in that one ..

          New thoughts .. ?

Wow that sheds some new light on his exotic M43!
            Its a Kriegsmarine M43!! (kidding!!!)
Definately not a standard piece based on the color...

Here is a color photo which is the same shot of Heinz Bar which helps bring out the cap details. My Dad's B-24 "Flak Magnet" was Heinz Bars 200th victory...so were practically family.

                Hi there!

I don't think he wear a KM einheitsfeldmutze... As Jos stated, the pic have very unrealistic colour. If you take a look at the same cap in the othre b/w pics, you can see that it have the same shade of the jacket. Modificated lw cap, by my side!

                Cheers!

                    Mine:

Mint and unused. Bought the cap in 2006 from Kai Winkler when he found a batch of these in an old taylor stock.

Here is a LW officer's M43 in my collection. It is well-worn but still in excellent shape. It appears to be a private purchase model with professionally applied bullion piping but has enlisted insignia.

                                The inside of my cap.

The sweatband is Ersatzmaterial, no leather. The stamp reads Deutsches Fabrikat (German manufacture).
