    LW tropical helmet for review.

    Hello all,

I never owned one of these before...
The color is blue- gray, much more bleu than the pictures showing.
Usual question, is the eagle OK ? I believe the material of the eagle is a zamac alloy.

    Thank you,
    Marc

It's an original helmet. Bill Shea has one of these for sale right now. However, it is not the standard 6 panel style that is much more desirable. There was a chinstrap on it at one time. However, they are often very dried out and removed by the collector. My guess is that they were French made.

              Thank you Jack,
French made ..... ??? Why not, The French made a lot of tropical gear.
Here a close up of the LBA stamp.

Jack is correct, it is French made and it is genuine, and does not commend the price of a German made example. Nice helmet.

Offers it for that, but has it sold? Regardless, blue grey sun helmets are rare.

I once owned the helmet on Bill's site. It had its chinstrap at the time of my ownership, but it was very brittle. Typically, they are seen in unworn condition. I haven't looked at what you are asking for it, but it typically prices out more in line with the typical tan LW helmets and less than the green versions. Yours is a nice example.

Jos. should weigh in on the eagle. I don't get alot of warm and fuzzy feelings about it. The two of these helmets that I have owned both had very high quality eagles on them. The one on Bill's site is one of the best eagles that I've ever seen on any pith helmet. Since yours never had a tri-color shield, I am wondering if this is not possibly an add-on.

I agree with you Jack. The Adler just does not have the quality one would expect. I would like to hear Jos's opinion as well.

I agree the eagle isn't the one expected . Comparing to the one I owned , details were visible even if the German types IMHO were better made

Nice pith, it might be Belgian made, but French is more likely. Odd eagle, poor details, but has the cutout between swaz and claws, which is usually a good sign. Maybe late war metal, or French made?
Seen a few of these blue piths on ebay lately, with no badges, but they had the holes for them and after seeing the price asked on the estand for this one, I might bid a bit higher next time.
