    Aiguillette question

Hello all. I have (what I believe to be) a couple of very basic questions about the use of aiguillettes on Luftwaffe uniforms: Were they 'awarded' to officers who had achieved a certain task and were they worn only on some occasions? Any other unrelated insights into their use would be appreciated.

Picked up a 4 pocket tunic (2nd Lieutenant) from Bill Shea and just want to see if I can pair it with my dress Aig.

Consensus over in the Uniforms section is that they are worn by all officers for dress/parade occasions.

            Hi
There are two kinds of aiguillettes, one for parade and one for adjudants. The first are a bit bigger and the adjutant aiguillette is a bit smaller.

              ...

Well, I think we should answer the poor guy's question ...

Yes, all officers wore the aguillette on certain occasions -- usually part of the "parade dress" as stiplulated in "Anzugregelung fur Offiziere". I have this booklet and it is quite specific.

In parade dress, the officers also wore the brocade belt, helmet, and boots. However, after the war started, the official wear of the brocade and aguillette was discontinued, though you see portraits taken with these in wear.

In photos of events like Udet's funeral, Officers are simply wearing the leather belt.
