    SOS Luft pilot jacket

Hello, I saw this pic on GHW and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. It looks like an elect heated leather flight jacket on the left. Curious. Best, Bill

    Pilot Jacket

    Hi Bill,

Yes it appeared to be a good jacket in my opinion. Unfortunately I saw it as I was on the way to meet someone so I only took a quick look at it and did not find out the price.

They were asking $3500. Leather was in decent condition, breast eagle appeared to be original sewn, collar was very dis-colored. in side tag was very blurred and faded, but seemed to be dated 1944.

Does anyone know if they are faking these (yet)?

IMHO the eagle has been reapplied but very nicely. I don't think that these jackets are reproduced.

Hello, thanks for the replys. $3500 sounds like a very nice price. It looks like the sleeve elect snaps are present. I also dont think these are being reproduced. Best, Bill

I think it's not easy to make good copies, it would show ..

Look at the fake electric gloves, often sold as late war, they're awful ..

Wish I'd seen this one, somehow I missed it. Rarely seen.

I missed it as well. Was it like this one? I wanted to bring this one with the trousers as well, but it was too bulky to transport.

It looks like this type but with a different colored velvet collar.

Hello Willi and Mike, both very desirable jackets. On the SOS photo one can see there is no waist band/snaps which is abit of a hallmark on that type jacket. Best, Bill

                      Hallo Bill and others!
Looks a nice late war heated jacket! I would seen the lining much better, because looks like with a different cloth instead to the classical brown hbt, always assimilated to the jackets of this type...

                      Cheers!

Yes, this one did have a blue/gray rayon (or so it appeared, I did not do a burn test!) lining.....and not the brown/tan hbt. The collar facing was also a different color than the purple that I am used to seeing and both the lining and the collar facing seemed to have been on the jacket forever.....but I was not in a lab environment to really check it out.

The leather of the jacket was also a little heavier than I normally see on these gray versions and had a pronounced green tint......different again from any of these that I have seen.......I could feel no electrical wires or plugs...but the tabs were there to cover them.

I assumed that this one was made by a different maker than the others that I have seen and that is why it had the above variations.

Thanks for the input! Anyway it carried the same other feature of the gray ones... Plastic zipps, no press buttons on the cuff, breast pocket and collar, and no mid seam on the sleeve (like some brown ones)...

                          Cheers!

I heard from a friend that these will be reproduced accurately within the next few months. Test samples are apparently already being modified. How accurate, I have no idea. My friend has seen them and says they are very good. He won't tell me who is making them. Once I find out any more info, I will add it. I'm hoping he'll send me some pictures soon.
I for one hope they aren't convincing.

Hmmm, I think it's rather difficult to fake these leather jackets, the leather is somewhat unique IMO .., plus all other parts have to be right.
                              I'm very curious ..

                              Jos.
