A General Question About LW 295 Goggles

    Hello,

Sometime in the future I would like to acquire a luftwaffe Battle of Britain aircrewman display. A few months ago, I noticed for sale a pair of luftwaffe 295 goggles being offered at an internet militaria site, but they were dated 42 so this would be too late for what I want to do. About 2 weeks ago I saw a pair of 295 goggles being offered for sale on ebay. I asked the seller if there was a date on the goggles. He politely answered the goggles had no date on them. So, some 295 goggles have dates and some don't. My question is, does anyone know, would there be anyway to tell whether a pair of 295 goggles are pre 1940 if there is no date on them? Were there any O.W Wagner 295 goggles during the early part of the Battle of Britain? Thanks.

Best thing is to get a complete aluminum box , you can sometimes find them with early dates, like 1935, -36 etc..

These boxes contained a pair of 295 goggles, a spare strap, a "chin" strap, several spare lenses, a piece of cloth to clean the lenses and a punch to cut away some rubber for a better fit on the nose.

    here's a nice 1936 set..

missing the punch and chin strap, but a very fine set.
I think most chin straps were thrown away, they were only used in open planes..
